The Textured Transitional Installation

Those Plant Ladies

We always love sharing the stories of our landscapes installations with you because every single one is so unique and meaningful to us. Every crew has something a little different to bring to the table and no job is ever quite the same. Our crews always have some of our tried and true, professional, female landscapers but each installation brings a special group of volunteers that have different backgrounds and talents. This installation was no different. Actually, this installation brought us the most men we’ve ever had on a team and some of the most special youth volunteers we could have asked for!

First, this project was a total dream to work on! Dreamy clients, a dreamy home, and an even dreamier landscape design from Fawn Renae Designs. We are completely obsessed with the exterior finishes on this new build paired with the soft touches brought in by the weeping trees, ferns, and grasses in the design. Just wait until the spring when all of these new plant babies start to put on their new growth and the landscape really takes off! It’s going to be a showstopper!

All in all, the work for this project was pretty straight forward and allowed us to work quickly and efficiently to get it all knocked out! The boulders were onsite when we arrived and just needed to be moved and set in place to match the design. We set a small team working on this while the rest of our team got to work on planting the plants and spreading mulch. For this round of installation, the homeowners skipped on the planters and the large stepping stones for the side of the property so we did not have those to place. Even though it may be easier to place these types of stone prior to installing plants, if phases are needed, getting the plants in first gives them a head start on their growth so they can really begin to fill out the design. Stone that doesn’t require grading or pouring can be placed around the plants at a later time.

After the boulders were placed, our boulder team moved to placing and planting the larger, balled and burlapped trees. These trees just take a few extra hands to dig larger holes, remove parts of the wire and burlap, and get the trees situated just right before they are planted. The rest of our team totally kick butt on the rest of the property! Our landscaping team is truly a well-oiled machine and the rest of the shrubs and perennials were planted and tons of mulch moved in record time!

Back to our unique crew! We were so excited to learn that our homeowners roped in three of their nephews to work alongside our team for this installation! This is the biggest crowd of men that we have had joining us for an installation and it was such a treat. When we talk about our mission to inspire, educate, and empower women, we realize that the men in our lives play such an important role in determining what the future looks like for women in our industry. We know that women could run the whole world if we had to, but, ultimately, we believe that we are best when everyone is able to work together and be equally valued. We are appreciative of the respect that these young men showed to the women on our team. They gave it their all right beside us, sweating and getting dirty with the best of them, while respecting the strength and knowledge that our team already has. We hope that this was a little taste for everyone of the cooperative and respectful environment that we want to model for our industry!

Finally, our crew was made extra, extra special by some young volunteers and a whole lot of family! Our sister, Nicki and our niece have joined us for many installations but our nephew also decided to come along and lend a hand. And our mom came! One of our professional team members (who’s mom is a team member too) also brought her son! Another professional team member came with her teenage daughter who loves learning from Heather and capturing every moment on photo and video. We had families surrounding us left and right! This is so, so important to us. Women are often put in a position where they have to choose between their jobs and passions and taking care of or spending time with their children. Sometimes we are made to feel like we can’t do both well – one always has to sacrifice for the other. We want to change that and we start with our own team. We celebrate being a mom, an aunt, a friend, a wife, a sister, and a daughter. We want our team to embrace who they are and provide a space where they can fully pursue both their passions and their relationships with those who mean the most!

Keep in touch, we’ve got one more project to share with you as we wrap up our 2021 installations!
