Cheers to one year!

We can’t believe it… Those Plant Ladies is turning one! We created this business in October of 2019 – just two twin sisters (Fawn and Heather, of course!) with a dream to change the game for women working in the landscape and other similar industries. If you’ve followed our story, you know we feel like we were meant to use our time apart to pursue individual paths so that we could come back together. To come back to THIS SPACE and join forces for something brand new. Something so much bigger than us.

We both grew up loving the outdoors and went off to get degrees in horticulture and turfgrass. After college, Fawn joined the landscape and turf care industry, working her way through this male-dominated field to lead her own crews and care for professional sports fields. Heather followed her passion for all things creative and began her career as a wedding photographer, shooting destination weddings and high-end events across the world. However, our hearts were called together to merge the world of rough and dirty with the world of creativity and curated beauty. We love female empowerment and created Those Plant Ladies with the purpose of inspiring, educating, and empowering women to “roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty!”

In the year since our big idea was born, we have accomplished so much more than we could have ever imagined possible. We have built a dream team of like-minded women who have helped push us forward and bring our visions to life. Our entire team works so hard to bring education and inclusion to our community in every project we tackle. We do so many amazing things but at the heart of it all is a passion for bringing women together. We always want our community to learn new things and feel empowered to do things for themselves that may traditionally be viewed as a “man’s job.” Mascara and muddy hands… that’s who we are!

To celebrate our one-year anniversary, we wanted to take a look at everything we’ve accomplished.

Landscape Installations

Those Plant Ladies installation crew at The Hickory House

In our first year, we’ve led more than 20 women in five landscape installation projects. These all-female crews are made up of our paid industry professionals and volunteers who join to learn from our professionals in a hands-on opportunity! We feel like these installation crews are where the rubber meets the road and we can do what we’re all about. We’ve laid truckloads of mulch, planted hundreds of plants, moved tons (seriously, tons!) of soil, sand, and gravel, installed a retaining wall and HUGE patio with over 3,500 pavers, and everything in between. We don’t just talk about getting your hands dirty and working hard, we get to grind it out with our girls every time we do an installation. It really is one of our favorite parts of this business and we can not WAIT for the installations to come!

You can fill out our interest form to join us for the next one or go here to start a custom virtual design with Fawn Renae Designs.

Workshops

We’ve been able to host a Summer Container Workshop in July and a Fall Container Workshop in October! We’re so amazed by our team working tirelessly to pull off all the details and our community showing up BIG. Y’all are the best. These opportunities to spend time with our gorgeous community of Plant Ladies fills our souls. We can provide the education and create relationships with the women around us. It’s always our mission to celebrate women as their genuine self, whatever that may be. When we meet you, we remember your name and we can’t wait to get together with you again. Each one of you are a part of our TPL family. This is one of the most rewarding parts of in-person workshops. Don’t miss the next one!

Branded Merchandise and Pop-Up Shops

We’ve lost track of how many pop-up shops we’ve had because we’re somewhere almost every weekend! We just released our third collection of branded merchandise and it’s probably our favorite one so far! (I mean, the newest releases always are.) We sold out of so many items when they debuted at our fall workshop. Earlier this year, our Carhartt hats went viral among our followers and sold like hot cakes. We secured our nursery dealer license and have been able to sell gorgeous and unique plants at our shops. We’ve even added a curated selection of home decor and gift items. Heather Rebekah are our merchandise gurus; they’re constantly working to offer new and exciting items to the Plant Ladies out there! We can’t wait to see what irresistible goodies they come up with next…

Virtual Community Building

Our online presence on social media and our blog has grown beyond our expectations! Claire, our marketing mastermind, has used our social media to bring us closer to our community of followers, asking for feedback and keeping everyone in the loop about all things Those Plant Ladies! Within the past week, our Those Plant Ladies Community group on Facebook has reached over 1,000 members! Every time you engage with our posts and let us know what you think, it helps us better provide the things that will inspire, educate, and empower you and other Plant Ladies. Keep it coming on Instagram and Facebook! We love the community we’re building and we’re always dreaming of new ways to connect.

So what’s next? We have huge dreams, like….enormous! We’re looking forward to highlighting our Plant Lady sisters in the horticulture industry to inspire more women to join our field. We want to provide more digital educational resources to educate and empower you with knowledge even if you can’t attend an installation or workshop! And, without a doubt, we will continue to get outside and get our hands dirty and show off what women can do at our installations!

Have suggestions for us for the future? Feedback about what you loved in year one? Drop us a comment here or on social media. Cheers to the first year… we can only imagine what comes next!
