Some days it rains. And some days it pours. On this installation, it did both!
We had this installation planned weeks and weeks in advance so that we could get our all-female crew together on a weekend to work hard and have a ton of fun with this project! And, of course, after 7-10 days of little to no rain, wouldn’t you know the rain came on our installation day. We prayed and prayed for the forecast to shift but, as always, God knows what we need and always provides us in every circumstance. Sometimes the rain is a blessing in disguise and that’s exactly what we discovered at this installation!
Like all of our clients, these homeowners worked with Fawn Renae Designs who created a dream landscape tailored just to their style. In this case, that’s a lot of red and burgundy tones! These clients love reds and every good designer knows how to bring those colors to life with other contrasting elements to make those reds really pop! Fawn’s design included the hues of blue fescue, white shasta daisies, evergreens, and sedums to compliment the red azaleas, crape myrtles, Japanese maples, lilies, burgundy loropetalums, and magenta hydrangeas. This custom design will enhance the home’s aesthetics so much while also being low maintenance for the homeowner.
You know we don’t tackle any installations without some serious equipment! Heavy equipment is so often worth the investment but many people, especially women, are intimidated to rent these pieces and put them to work for their DIY projects or even when working professionally. We were able to provide our professional crew and volunteers the opportunity to use these amazing Avant 630 Loaders, an earth auger, and a bed edger. These are some of our “must-have” tools for practically every job. We love educating women and empowering them to rent these pieces for themselves with confidence!
So about that rain… we accomplished as much as we were able to on Saturday morning before the rain really started to fall heavily. It’s not ideal to plant in heavy, wet soils so once the rain was heavy enough to start getting the soil a little sticky, it was time to call it a day! Our crew was so amazing and we seriously accomplished a ton in the 4-5 hours of work we put in! But day two was even better…
Check out our newest team member, Lauren, pictured above with her husband, Tyler! Tyler is a craftsman woodworker and custom built these square planters for this project. We were so thrilled to support a local tradesperson and to provide our client with such truly high quality and unique pieces.)
Day 2 Installation
Remember when we said that God brought so many blessings with the rain? Not only did we need the rain but when our crew got together on Sunday, we had the most beautiful day. The sun was shining and the temperature was just right. Even better, our volunteers came out in full force all over again! Can you believe it? We are constantly impressed by the women that come to learn with us. They work so hard and we have the best time.
It was an extra special treat that we ended up having FIVE pairs of mothers and daughters on our team that day. Our hearts were so full. Seeing the next generation of hard working young girls and women getting their hands dirty was amazing. Even more than that, we know the impact that seeing their moms working and having fun had on these girls and it’s something they’ll remember forever. We’re so proud and very honored that we could provide an opportunity for women to inspire their young ones by showing them what it looks like to work hard, get a little dirty, and have a blast doing something they love! This is really what our mission is all about!
At the end of the second day, this installation was complete. The weekend wasn’t what we had planned. But it was perfect. We were soggy and freezing cold and discouraged at times but at other moments we were speechless with joy and love for these women. It wasn’t perfect in so many ways and we made so many adjustments along the way but it was also absolutely perfect in every way. Struggles and challenges come with life but having this C R E W walking beside us makes it all worth it! We love you all and couldn’t do it without you!
