Time to check in on our Hickory House installation after our Phase 2 workday with Those Plant Ladies (TPL) Crew! (If you missed the progress from Phase 1 and the design inspiration, check out The Hickory House Installation: Part 1). We love these installation projects so much because it gives us the chance to let women get their hands dirty, use new tools, and learn from a hands-on experience!
We had a team of 15 inspiring women for Phase 2 to tackle some more plantings and a huge hardscape project! Our TPL Crew is always made up of women (and sometimes men) with diverse professional and personal backgrounds but who all share a passion for working hard while learning and laughing a lot! This Crew had teachers, mothers, business owners, newly retired women, and women from the landscaping industry. Every person there brought their A-game and worked so hard to knock out this project!
While we had a bit of planting left from Phase 1 to do, the major work for Phase 2 was laying the retaining wall and patio in the backyard. This was something most of our women had never done before and we used a lot of new equipment! There was no way to get large equipment to the backyard so our Crew shoveled over 8 tons of gravel into our concrete mover!
This Crew killed it and we were almost able to complete the retaining wall and level the gravel layer. We have one more phase of this installation to complete, laying the sand layer on top of the gravel and finally laying our pavers in a herringbone pattern! Stay tuned and check back in for Phase 3! We can not wait to see this finished project!
